Waterfall Card Tutorial – A Fun Interactive Fold with 3 Card Ideas

Have you ever made a Waterfall Card? This interactive fun fold looks impressive, but once you understand how the mechanism works, it’s surprisingly easy to put together!

In my latest video, I’m sharing three different Waterfall Card designs and showing you how to create this fun fold using Stampin’ Up! products.

And one of the best parts—you don’t need special dies to create the waterfall mechanism!

What Is a Waterfall Card?

A Waterfall Card is an interactive card with a pull mechanism that causes the different panels to flip or “waterfall” as you pull it.

It’s one of those cards that makes the recipient want to open it, pull it, close it and then do it all over again!

The waterfall mechanism also gives you several panels to decorate, making it a wonderful way to showcase your favourite Designer Series Paper, stamped images and sentiments.

Waterfall Card Measurements

Here are the cardstock measurements you’ll need to create the Waterfall Card:

Card Base

4-1/4″ x 8-1/2″
Score at 5-1/2″

Waterfall Panels

Cut 4 pieces of cardstock at 2-1/2″ x 4-1/4″

Waterfall Mechanism

1-1/4″ x 7-3/8″
On one end, score at 1-1/4″
On the opposite end, score at 1/2″, 1″, 1-1/2″ and 2″

Extra Cardstock Reinforcement

1-1/4″ x 5″
This piece is used to strengthen the waterfall mechanism.

3 Waterfall Card Ideas

For this video, I created three different versions to show you how versatile this fun fold can be.

I especially love the Christmas version featuring the adorable stocking on the front. The classic red, green and white colour combination gives it such a festive look, while the waterfall feature adds an unexpected interactive surprise.

You can easily change the Designer Series Paper, colours, stamps and sentiments to create a Waterfall Card for almost any occasion.

Try one for Christmas, birthdays, thank-you cards, thinking-of-you cards, celebrations or simply to let someone know you’re thinking about them.

Once you have the basic measurements and mechanism figured out, have fun changing up the design and making it your own!

No Special Dies Needed!

Don’t let the moving mechanism intimidate you. You can create the basic Waterfall Card using your paper trimmer, cardstock, Designer Series Paper and adhesive.

That makes this a great fancy fold to try if you enjoy creating cards that look a little different without needing a special die set just to make the fold.
